Your Email Marketing To-Do List

Reading Time:

Emails can seem simple to create: write your text, attach the sender, and send out. However, there is a lot more that goes into a newsletter, such as designing an email that fits multiple devices, clickable topics, etc. To make sure you are putting together an impactful email marketing campaign, follow your email to-do list.

email marketing dos:

Include a call to action button. Your subscriber should find content that is valuable and engaging in your email, but they should know exactly what step to take next. Whether it is getting them to buy something, read a blog, or visiting the website, including a bold call to action button produces a higher click-through rate. The call to action links them to their next destination and sets straight forward expectations such as learn more, sign up today, etc.

Send a content focus email. Don’t send an email just to send one. Make sure the content in your email is engaging. Your subscribers signed up to get new and updated information from you. They did not sign up to get a ton of emails to fill their inbox. Take time to figure out what you want to say and if it is worth an email or just a social post or phone call.

First impressions are everything, so make sure you write a clear and precise subject line. Your subject line is your chance to grab your subscriber’s attention. It could be the difference between a click or the trash bin. Most people scan their inboxes on their phones, so unless the subject line causes interest, it might sit for a while until the subscriber has more time to clean their inbox or might get deleted right away.

Send test emails. Before you hit the send button, make sure you have tested the email across multiple devices and browsers. Emails will often appear in the inbox differently than you expected, and some email providers will block certain elements. You should also test to make sure there are no typos, formatting errors, or broken links.

Optimize for mobile devices. Most email services automatically format for mobile devices, but it is never a bad idea to send a test email and check it on your phone. Making sure your design appears correct on a small screen is essential since a majority of your subscribers open their email on a mobile device. So, keep mobile in mind, call to actions, and precise content when designing your next email.
